The name of the breed already contains the historical homeland of these cats - the Kurilian Islands (Kunashir and Iturup, to be precise). There are still "tailless" cats of completely different colors running around the nature.
Why do kurbobs have such a tail?
There are several theories, but which one is correct is not known for certain.
It is clear that the Kurilian bobtails resemble the cats of the neighboring Japanese islands - the Japanese bobtail. The Japanese bobtail is recognized as the property of Japan and is prohibited for export, but it wasn't always like this. It is quite possible that Japanese cats came to russian territory on ships as part of research or military expeditions.
Reliable facts: for the first time, the Kurilian bobtail was identified in the 80s of the 20th century. And they defined him exactly as a Japanese bobtail, but then they realized that they were similar only in their tails. The rest (coat texture, head, body shape) was different. All this inspired Soviet felinologists to embark on a real expedition to the Kurilian Islands.
Finally, by 1995, it was possible to describe the breed standard.
It is important to note that
the natural way the breed is formed makes it healthier, unlike breeds bred by breeding.
Kurilian bobtails really get sick extremely rarely and are resistant to environmental factors. All this is because they came from regions with a severe climate.
Kurilian bobtail's temperament
The Kurilian bobtail represents a combination of a unique character and a unusual appearance.
What's amazing about them is that historically the wild cat has an incredible attachment to humans and their family. It is difficult to find a "more" ideal companion than this breed cat.
The main character traits:
- High level of intelligence - kurbobs are able to learn to follow commands like dogs
- Curiosity and attention - thanks to these traits they are excellent hunters and fishermen.
- Attachment to family - Kurilian bobtails always follow family members. "A cat cannot live with you for the rest of your life, but he will be your friend all his life"
- 4. Playfulness and fun - bobtails manage to maintain balance, they are not prone to hyperactivity and aggression. This allows to avoid open conflicts between the cat and other family members (including dogs)
- 5. Tactility - if you expect a "return" from the pet, then the Kurilian bobtail is definitely your option! He will fit perfectly into a small family as well as into a large family with children. Cats of this breed are always happy to receive the attention of the owner, accompany him to work and meet him from it.
Thus, the Kuril bobtail is an ideal companion and a real BEST FRIEND.
